WeSet – Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust
The Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust was set up as a charity. Westmill Wind provides WeSET with a grant of £6,500 a year, but more importantly directors and volunteers give their time to support its events. The charity’s objective is to encourage and promote the deployment of sustainable energy, in particular (but not exclusively) within the area of benefit – defined as within a 25 mile radius from Westmill Wind Farm.
We recruited seven trustees from those who expressed a strong interest to be involved at the AGM or workshops, and trustees have served for a number of years.
The Trustees represents interests of low carbon communities, education and arts, consistent with the object of the Trust. The Trust will aim to support existing activities from other like-minded organisations.
In the years since its formation the trust has shown over 11,000 visitors around the site (at 2018), organised a series of summer events when the site has been opened, produced arts and education materials and generally sought to inspire the many visitors to the site.
The trust is supported by a group of passionate volunteers who show visitors around the site and who sometimes also talk at other events. WeSet could not operate without them.
If you think you can help us with any of these activities (e.g. conducting site visits (training will be provided), design skills, web expertise etc.) we would love to hear from you. Please contact WeSet through their website.
Longer term, the Trustees will seek to establish working groups in the areas of low carbon communities, education, and the arts to carry out the objectives of the Trust. These groups will be self organizing and open to any members of Westmill Co-op (and potentially beyond) who wish to become involved.
