It was reported in The Times newspaper recently that “A clear majority of the British public, including Conservative voters, back the development of more onshore wind turbines, polling for the trade body suggests.
A survey of 3,600 adults by Yougov found that 69 per cent of respondents said that they supported building onshore wind farms, including 60 per cent of respondents who identified as Conservative voters, according to the research commissioned by RenewableUK, the wind industry group. Only 11 per cent of Tory voters strongly opposed the development of more onshore wind.
The Conservatives pledged in 2015 to end subsidies for onshore wind amid opposition from some activists and backbenchers. More than 7,000 onshore wind turbines have been built in the UK but development has ground to a halt since the Tories implemented their pledge.”
